WinPE Boot image not updating

Recently, I ran into an issue where an OSD image deploy failed on the client side. Well, not exactly failed… the PXE boot process worked, nothing else completed though. The SMSTS.LOG indicated that the Network Driver could not be found.

Strange, as I had added the proper NIC driver to the boot image and allowed it to refresh.

Products used:

Windows Server 2012

ConfigMgr 2012 R2

WDS Hotfix = KB2905002

In digging deeper, the SMSPXE.LOG contained multiple entries showing an error, such as:

Error opening file: E:\RemoteInstall\SMSImages\HYD0000E\WinPE.HYD0000E.wim. Win32=32    SMSPXE    12/20/2013 10:12:33 AM    5508 (0x1584)

Win 32 = File in use… stopped and restarted the WDS service. SMSPXE.LOG indicated that the images were added back to the PXE Provider and validated.

Next test OSD cycle worked perfectly.
